FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Colorful Book Spines

How many books can my child checkout at a time?

Kindergarten, first and second grade students can check out one book at a time. Third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade students can check out 2 books at a time

How does Kindergarten check out work?

Kindergarteners start to check out books after the winter holiday after learning about the library and proper book care. They will be each given a red and white striped bag that they will use to bring their book back and forth to the library. Please do not throw away the bag.

What happens if my child loses a book?

Overdue notices are sent with your child's teacher twice a month. Students will not be able to check out more than their allotted number of books. For example if a second grader is missing a book they cannot get a new one. However since third-sixth grade students are allowed more than one they can get a new book if one of their books is returned. Students missing books from a previous year will not be able to get a new book until it is it found or the fine is paid. Students with missing books will not receive their report card at the end of the year or their diploma upon high school graduation until books are found or fines are paid. Records of missing books follow students from grade to grade and to middle and high school.

Money for books found after they have been paid for will be refunded.

How can I volunteer/help in the library?

I would love volunteers in the library for normal circulation and especially for the book fair. Email Lexie Theriault at atheriault@jocoed.net if you are interested in volunteering

What is the Scholastic Book Fair?

The Scholastic Book Fair is a pop up book store right in the library. It is there for a week in the fall. A portion of the sales go to helping the library buy books and other educational materials.

Can I donate books to the library?

Yes! However, the librarian will decide whether or not specific books will be accpeted.

Can my child be a library helper?

Yes! I take library helpers in 5th and 6th grade. Students need to fill out an application and if accepted will be assigned a morning shift (7:30-7:50) or an afternoon shift (straight after school until 3:15) based on their availability. I love volunteers but if they fail to show up more than 4 times without letting me know ahead of time I will find a different volunteer to take their place. Volunteers will be replaced every 9 weeks.
